Obituary:
OREGON-Stanley Wright, age 80, of Oregon, passed away gracefully and with dignity on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at his home. He was born on July 3, 1931, the youngest of six children, the son of Edwin and Rose (Schwarz) Wright. He married the former Cathy Statz on Sept. 6, 1956, in Cross Plains. Together, they raised a loving family of four children in the Madison area. Stan had a strong faith and was a member of the Holy Mother of Consolation Parish in Oregon for the past 45 years. Stan was a generous and involved member of his community, serving for the past 60 years as a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 531. Stan was the owner, operator and chief card player of Wright’s Auto in Madison for 44 years. Highly respected by the business community and beloved by his devoted customers, Stan was the quintessential mechanic. If he wasn’t under the hood of a car or out on a tow, Stan could often be found presiding over his regular card table at Wright’s Auto. Their daily card games were the stuff of legend. Stan also found the time to cultivate a beautiful vegetable garden at the shop; he was especially fond of his tomatoes. Stan had many interests that he enjoyed with his family and friends. Stan loved playing cards, especially muttonhead and cribbage, golfing with his buddies and bowling. He was an accomplished bowler and was proud of his record 300 bowling game in 1998. Stan also cherished the time that he spent at his cabin in northern Wisconsin, known as Tickland; that he built with many of his dear friends. There, friends and family alike enjoyed hunting, fishing and of course, playing cards. Stan is survived by his wife, Cathy of Oregon; sons, Tom (Lisa) Wright of DeForest and Gerald (Jessica Ace) Wright of Monona; seven beloved grandchildren, Derek, Briteni, Joshua, McKayla, Augustus, Avery, and Evelyn Wright; brothers, Edwin (Julia) Wright and Wilbur (Dolores) Wright; sister, Elaine Wright; in-laws, Betty Wright, Jeanette and Ray Breunig, Coletta Statz, Sylvester, and Donna Faye Statz; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his two children, John and Vickie Wright; his parents; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Norm (Ellen) Wright, Raphael Statz, David Statz, and Eddie Statz; and his faithful dog, Speedy.
