MADISON-Roger Lawrence "Larry" Longseth, age 69, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb.13, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital, with family at his side. He was born on July 26, 1942, in Dodgeville, the son of Curtis Royal and Dorothy Geraldine(Hudson) Longseth. Roger attended Monona Grove High School then joined the U.S. Navy in 1960, and served until 1967. He was a plank holder on the U.S.S. Preble and also served on the U.S.S. Brinkley Bass, the U.S.S. Lake Champlain, and the U.S.S. Intrepid. It was the Navy that trained him as an electrician, giving him a trade and focus for life. Roger worked for Hobart Food Equipment Service for 23 years. He then proudly operated his own business of Tech Masters of Madison, LLC for 14 years before moving on to a well-deserved retirement in December of 2010. He was past president of the Cottage Grove Lions Club,a member of the American Legion Post #501, and a Navy League member. Roger's greatest passion was racing stock cars. He started out with his friend and racing partner, Wayne Belgum, at the Wisconsin Dells raceway in 1987. He drove the #83 late model car at the Columbus 151 Speedway for a decade and then competed in the modified class at Madison International Speedway. More recently he competed during the 2010 and 2011 winter ice racing seasons at Lake Sinissippi. Roger is survived by his wife of 11 years, Linda Jean Cayer; daughters,Christine (John) Luxton and Colleen (Justin) Krantz and their mother, Carol (Jeff Robinson) Longseth; and a soon-to-be welcomed first grandchild. He is further survived by his best friend, Wayne (Nancy Pesch) Belgum; brother, Martin (Sandra) Longseth; sister, Roberta (Robert) Orton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Todd and Shirley Cayer; and other family members, Patrick (Maritza) Furlong and Laura Walters. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, beginning with full military rites. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday.
