Meisel, George Edwin

MADISON-George Edwin Meisel, age 85, died on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010.  He was born on Sept. 3, 1924, in Baraboo, the son of George and Grace (Niles) Meisel.  George completed eighth grade at Chapel Hill School in Merrimac and worked on the family farm.  He served in the U. S. Army as a radio operator.  George married Isabelle Barrows on Oct. 11, 1946.  She preceded him in death in October 1999.  George worked at the Badger Ordnance plant and retired from Oscar Mayer.  He enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting, baseball, and the family reunions at Lake Kegonsa.  George is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Reggie) Warner; daughter-in-law, Carole Meisel of North Carolina; grandson, Dustin Meisel of Madison; sister, Audrey Kieffer of Baraboo; brothers, Alvin of Beloit, Donald (Barb) of McFarland, and John (Norma) of Platteville; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and son, Darold Meisel.  Funeral services will be held at LAKE EDGE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4032 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, with the Rev. Richard Blomker presiding.  Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.  Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens.
