MONONA – Omer P. Creydt, age 86, of Monona, passed peacefully on Sunday, August 05, 2012, surrounded by family at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg after a brief illness. He was born October 10, 1925 to Ervin and Agnes (Jaeke) Creydt in Watertown. On October 11, 1947 he was united in marriage to Ardis Mueller in Hustisford. Omer grew up on a family dairy farm in Lebanon and graduated from Watertown High School. He went onto serve in the US Navy during World War II. After graduation from University of Wisconsin Stout, Omer began a teaching career that spanned nearly three decades. In Madison, he started at Central Colony and then moved to MATC’s apprenticeship program. Throughout the years, Omer held various leadership positions including teachers’ union president. In his spare time, Omer ran a Shopsmith business from his home. He loved family get-togethers at the cabin by Fountain Lake. In retirement, he enjoyed travelling to Hot Springs, Ark., and Door County and daily breakfasts out with his beloved wife of 65 years. Omer is survived by his wife, Ardis; five children, Terry (Lydia) Creydt of Madison, Lynne Glinski of Green Bay, Joel (Pam) Creydt of Altoona, Mary Creydt of Madison and Cindy (Tony) Brooks of Waterford; grandchildren, Beth, Jeremy (Lori), Amy, Ben (Samantha), Sam (special friend Jen), Jeff (Bethany), Dan, Nathan and Grant; and great-grandchildren, Tyler, Emily, Joshua, Garrett, Claire and Griffin. He is further survived by a brother, Harris (Alice) Creydt and brother-in-law, Arlen (Delores) Mueller along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jeanette Hinze.
A celebration of life will be held at ST. STEPHEN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5700 Pheasant Hill Road, Monona, at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2012. He will be laid to rest in Highland Memory Gardens, Madison. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church or Al-Anon Family Groups. Omer inspired those he guided and sponsored making the world a better place.
