Obituary:PORTAGE/ McFARLAND- Donald M. Moe, age 73, died at the University Hospital on Saturday, March 24, 2012, with his loving family by his side. He was born in May of 1938, in Mount Horeb, the son of Henry and Alma (Wittwer) Moe. Donald grew up in Mount Vernon and graduated from Verona High School in 1957. He served three years in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. On June 5, 1965, Donald married Sonja Gower of Madison. Together they raised four children. He was employed for 27 years at Mendota Mental Health as a painter. Donald also worked for Klein Dickert and Statz & Harrop of Middleton. He was a talented artist, loved to read and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sports and music events. Donald also enjoyed walking with his beloved dogs, Rosie and Chowder. He is survived by his loving wife, Sonja; children, Eric (Teri) of Stoughton, Edward of Portage, Christine (Steve) Clauss of Pardeeville and John (Julie) of Stevens Point; ten loving grandchildren, Carrie, Courtney, Ryan, Allie, Jacob, Lizzie, Taylor, Caleb, Madison and Lily; sisters, Gloria Hustad of DeForest and Virginia Wells of Washington; sisters-in-law, Eva Moe of Mount Horeb and Donna Squire of Baraboo; brothers-in-law, Armond (Donna) Gower of Madison and Wayne (Nancy) Gower of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bud Moe; sister, Delma Baumgartner; and brothers-in-law, Ernie Baumgartner, Robert Wells, Gordon Hustad and Dennis Gower; and mother-in-law, Myrtle Gower. Memorial services will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, at 11:30 a.m., on Thursday, March 29, 2012. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. Donald was a very kind, gentle and generous person. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
