Robert Quentin Heckendorn

VERONA-Robert Quentin Heckendorn passed away on Friday, Aug. 03, 2012, at Agrace HospiceCare with family surrounding him with love. Robert was born in Portage on Sept. 13, 1932, to Fred and Reine (Francois) Heckendorn. He grew up in Lake Delton and graduated from Wisconsin Dells High School. Bob met the love of his life in high school where they were high school sweethearts. Bob and Betty Ann Engnath were married on Jan. 10, 1953. On Feb. 3, 1953, he was inducted into the U.S. Armed Forces. Bob trained at Camp Breckinridge, Ky., with the 101st Airborne Division. During the Korean War, Bob served in Italy as the company commanderís jeep driver. Bob got an honorable discharge from the Army and went to work for Heckendorn Plumbing. Bob and Betty moved to Monona to raise a family in 1959. Bob worked for Pharo Plumbing, Fish Building Supply, and American Property Management. After selling their home in Monona, they moved to Rock River Leisure Estates where Bob did the maintenance for Rock River Properties. After retirement in 1994, Bob and Betty enjoyed traveling with their camper. Bobís hobbies included hunting, fishing, bowling, playing baseball, coaching little league, coaching peewee football, and coaching menís and womenís fast pitch. Bob also enjoyed making bird houses, wishing wells, and Styrofoam cup lamps.
Bob is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Cindae (Dennis) Dignan and Penny Barman; son, David (Ann) Heckendorn; grandchildren, Jeff (Leigh) Ellingson, Scott (Tracy) Ellingson, Krista Dignan, Karl (Connie) Dignan, Lisa (Ben) McMullan, Teri Ann Barman, Brian (Shannon) Barman, Janelle (Jason) Van Erem, and Brock Heckendorn; and 10 great-grandchildren; along with nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Reine Heckendorn; his parents-in-law, Frank and Lois Engnath; sisters and brothers, Lois and Norbert Schoenike, Gordon Heckendorn, Arthur and Dorothy Heckendorn, and Mary Farris.
A Memorial Service will be held at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK CHAPEL, 401 Femrite Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, with a luncheon and time for sharing to follow. Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare.
