Obituary:MCFARLAND-Betty O. Howery, age 76, of McFarland, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at her home. She was born on Oct. 8, 1935, in Madison, the daughter of Ernest and Dagny Johnson. She married James Howery on Nov. 15, 1952. Betty attended East High School. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Betty was an avid sports fan; especially when it came to her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and smile which brightened any room. Betty was a woman of simple tastes, no need for extravagance. She enjoyed spending time in Arizona for spring training for 25 years at the same motel, where she made many lifelong friends. She is survived by her husband, Jim; her four sons, Craig (Sharen), Steve (close friend, Lorna Howery), Tom (Terri), and Jeff (Shannon); grandchildren, Erinn (Joe) Kolk, Peter Howery, Lukas and Cassie Howery, Ben and Alex Howery, Chloe, Lydia, Seth, and Eli Howery; great-grandchildren, Nora and Joseph Kolk Jr., and Rylee Howery; step-granddaughter, Elizabeth (Chris) Bratz; step great-grandson, Preston Bratz; sister, Virginia Baldwin; sisters-in-law, Alice Dodge, Doris Caruso, and Judy (Dave) Pierce; and her dog, Jake. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law, John Baldwin, Jim Caruso, and Bud Dodge; and many pets. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2012. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from Noon until the time of service on Thursday. A Celebration of her life will immediately follow the service at Maple Tree Restaurant, Hwy 51, McFarland. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McFarland Education Foundation or Agrace HospiceCare. Thank you to Dr. Roy Kim and the other doctors, nurses, and support staff at Dean Oncology and Agrace HospiceCare, especially Betty’s team (Nicole, Teri, Jennifer, Melissa, and Ann).

Visitation: Visitation will be held at the funeral home from Noon until the time of service on Thursday.
Service: Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2012.
